Tripura State Medical Council Issues Advisory, Makes Doctor Registration Mandatory

Agartala: The Tripura State Medical Council (TSMC) has mandated that all doctors practising modern medicine in government and private hospitals across the state complete their registration with the council.
Additionally, the regulatory body has urged all registered medical practitioners to visit the official TSMC website and verify their details. Doctors have been advised to check for any discrepancies in their registration records and report them for necessary corrections.
Further, the council has clarified that the doctors must have valid documents with them when coming to the TSMC office to make any necessary corrections to their records. It also did not mention any deadline to complete the process.

The notice issued on the official website of TSMC mentioned, "All doctors practising modern medicine in the state of Tripura are required to obtain registration with the Tripura State Medical Council (TSMC). All registered doctors under the Tripura State Medical Council (TSMC), Agartala, West Tripura, are hereby requested to visit the official website to verify their details and report any discrepancies for correction. Please ensure to contact the TSMC office with valid documents for any necessary corrections."
Speaking to The Hindu, TSMC Chairman Dr. Sushanta Roy said, "3,804 doctors have registered with us and 1,022 of them are employed in government service. Many doctors have not completed registration, but they should do it immediately. The government has made registration mandatory for every medical professional."
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that as per the National Medical Commission's data, as of November 2024, India had altogether 13,86,145 allopathic doctors, who are registered with the State Medical Councils across the country.
As per the data, shared by the Ministry, 2683 doctors are registered with the Tripura Medical Council. The Union Health Minister further informed that the Government has increased the number of medical colleges and subsequently increased MBBS seats.
