Chennai: Two medical professionals-turned-politicians have been inducted into the first-ever Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cabinet, led by party chief Joseph C Vijay, who took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, along with nine ministers.

Kottaipalayam Ganesan Arunraj, popularly known as Dr K.G. Arunraj, was sworn in as a minister in Vijay’s maiden cabinet after a remarkable career spanning medicine, civil service, and politics.
The 46-year-old began his professional journey as a doctor after earning his MBBS degree from Madras Medical College. He later served as a government medical officer at a primary health centre in Krishnagiri district.
He later joined the Indian Revenue Service before resigning from the prestigious post to enter public life through Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Before becoming a minister, he served as the party’s general secretary for policy and propaganda.
Arunraj had won from Tiruchengode Assembly constituency in Namakkal district, securing 79,500 votes and trouncing his nearest rival, SRMT Sekar of the AIADMK, by a margin of 28,172 votes, reports TNIE.
Dr K. T. Prabhu: Dentist becomes Karaikudi’s first minister
Another notable inclusion in the cabinet is Dr K. T. Prabhu, a dentist by profession, who has become the first-ever minister from the Karaikudi Assembly constituency since its formation.
Prabhu holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Chennai, an MDS degree from East Philippines, and an MSc degree from Germany. He has also completed fellowships from institutions abroad.
He joined TVK in 2024 and quickly became active in the party’s outreach programmes, particularly by organising medical camps during party conferences and events.
In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, Prabhu contested from Karaikudi and defeated the Congress candidate by a margin of 46,074 votes.
