UDF names Dr Babita Sikriwal president, announces national team for 2026-27

New Delhi: The United Doctors Front (UDF), one of the largest associations representing young doctors and medical students, has announced its national team for the tenure 2026-27. The newly constituted team will remain in office until March 31, 2027.

In a historic first, Dr Babita Sikriwal has been appointed as the National President of the United Doctors Front (UDF), becoming the first woman to head a national-level doctors’ organisation in India.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by UDF Chairperson Dr Lakshya Mittal while unveiling the organisation's National team for the 2026-27 term.

Alongside Dr Sikriwal, Dr Ankit Sharma from AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr Mir Waseem from GMC Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir, and Dr Onkar Singh have been appointed as National Vice-Presidents. The team further includes Dr Prashant Sharma as National General Secretary, Dr Rakesh Beniwal as National Joint Secretary, and Dr Bharat Rathore as National Finance Secretary.

The new team brings together medical professionals from premier institutions such as AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jodhpur, PGIMER Chandigarh, SMS Jaipur, and various government medical colleges across India. UDF has also strengthened its organisational structure by forming dedicated wings, including legal, advisory, zonal leadership, and specialised cells for issues such as anti-ragging, mental health, persons with disabilities, junior residency concerns, RTI, FMG matters, and academic research.

According to the organisation, the past year has been significant in strengthening its national presence. During this period, the UDF has actively advocated for regulated duty hours for resident doctors, addressed concerns related to the NEET-PG 2025 single-shift examination, supported calls for a structured residency system, and successfully conducted its national conference, UDFCON 2025.

The new team has been tasked with further strengthening these efforts and building a more robust organisational structure.

Congratulating the team, Dr. Lakshya Mittal said, "Dr. Babita Sikriwal becoming the first woman National President of a doctors' organisation in India is a proud moment for UDF. After a year of fighting for duty hour reforms, the NEET-PG case, and hosting UDFCON 2025, we are building an even stronger organisation. I urge all members to work with dedication and integrity for the betterment of doctors, medical students, and India's healthcare system. In a post on 'X', Dr Babita Sikriwal expressed gratitude for the appointment, stating that the responsibility is not just a designation but a commitment towards the welfare, unity, academic growth, and rights of the medical fraternity. She also congratulated the newly appointed team members and expressed her eagerness to work collectively towards building a stronger and safer healthcare community.
