The incident occurred when Dr KK Singh, a resident of the Para police station area, boarded a shared car from Chinhat to travel for work to Nawabganj, Gonda. According to the complaint, the vehicle's driver and another passenger offered Dr Singh tea during the journey, which was later discovered to be laced with an intoxicating substance.
Dr Singh lost consciousness after consuming the tea, and the culprits stole Rs 5,000 in cash and a mobile phone from him. Following this, the driver took a different route to Gonda. After the doctor noticed that the route was not the same, he questioned the driver only to be informed that it was to save toll tax.
An investigation has been launched to nab the accused.
Speaking to TOI, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Zone, Vishwajeet Srivastava, said, "Three teams had been formed under the supervision of the assistant commissioner of police, Kakori, and efforts are underway to successfully solve the case. Further legal action is being taken by gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage."
