Uttar Pradesh: Two doctors booked under section 500 for allegedly defaming CM Yogi Adityanath
Varanasi: Two doctors have been booked by the Kotwali police of UP's Azamgarh district for allegedly defaming Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP district president Dhruv Kumar Singh by making objectionable remarks against them.
The two doctor includes a Chief Medical superintendent and a district hospital doctor named Dr Chandrahas.
The scene was witnessed by BJP District Unit General Secretary Amit Kumar Rai when he visited the district hospital to meet a patient and there he saw Dr Chandrahas making objectionable remarks against the CM and BJP's district chief in the presence of the CMS.
After that, Rai wanted to record a video showing the conversation to the public but Dr Chandrahas wanted to keep his name private.
Following the incident, Rai went to the Kotwali police station and filed a complaint against both of them and submitted the video evidence to the police. He also demanded immediate action against them.
Kotwali inspector DK Srivastava told TOI "An FIR has been lodged under Section 500 of IPC (defamation) against the CMS and Dr Chandrahas on Monday evening on the complaint of BJP district unit general secretary Amit Kumar Rai. We are investigating the matter."
Section 500, which is on punishment for defamation, reads: "Whoever defames another shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both."
