Violence at RG Kar Hospital: On-duty doctors threatened by patient's friend
Kolkata: In another case of violence against medical professionals, on-duty doctors including a female postgraduate trainee doctor were allegedly threatened and abused by a friend of a patient at RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday.
According to police sources, a complaint was lodged on Wednesday afternoon by a doctor at RG Kar Hospital against a person who came with his relative to the hospital’s trauma unit for treatment, news agency PTI reported.
The incident occurred at 1:50 AM on Wednesday when an accident victim was brought to the surgery department at RG Kar Medical College. At that time, three junior doctors, including a postgraduate trainee, were on duty.

According to the PTI report, a police officer said, “The person abused and threatened the attending doctor with dire consequences over treatment of the patient. The on-duty police personnel detained him. The patient later left the hospital for treatment at another medical institute. The detained person was later arrested”.
The accused, who threatened the doctors with severe consequences in front of CISF personnel, was arrested by the police.
The patient and those with him were drunk. Out of the blue, they started misbehaving with the doctors, who were traumatised,” said a medical officer-in-charge in the trauma care unit, reports TOI.
“The seniors, who were present around and male PGT doctors arrived in the room and called police. Some junior doctors are working unofficially. Such incidents will harm their morale.”
The police have started an investigation into the case which has been filed under Section 351(3)/132/79/54 BNS at Tala police station.
