Woman doctor assaulted during ward rounds at Ganderbal District Hospital

Doctor Assault
Ganderbal: A woman doctor on duty was allegedly assaulted and verbally abused by a patient and his attendants during ward rounds at the District Hospital Ganderbal, triggering outrage and concerns among medical staff.
According to a written complaint submitted by on-duty doctors, the incident occurred on May 16, 2026, around 4:15 PM while a medical officer was conducting routine ward rounds in the casualty ward. The patient had been admitted following a road traffic accident and was being treated under standard medical protocols.
Doctors stated that the patient was initially provided with first aid and later shifted to the casualty ward for further monitoring after being stabilised. However, during the ward rounds, the patient and his attendants allegedly became violent and physically assaulted the doctor and used abusive language.
Following the incident, the medical team collectively submitted a formal complaint seeking legal action against those involved. In the complaint, doctors urged authorities to initiate proceedings under applicable laws to ensure the safety of healthcare workers and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
In a recent post on 'X', the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) strongly condemns the assault on a lady doctor at District Hospital Ganderbal, Kashmir, on 16 May at 4:15 PM. Such acts of violence against healthcare professionals are unacceptable. We demand strict action against the accused and that an FIR be lodged without delay.
Further action from the local authorities is awaited, and an investigation into the matter is expected.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that four resident doctors were allegedly assaulted inside the gynaecology ward of K.B. Bhabha Hospital in Kurla following the death of a 29-year-old woman due to complications arising from an emergency Caesarean section, sparking outrage among medical professionals and renewed concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in government hospitals.
