Woman doctor murdered inside Govt hospital quarter, absconding MR husband suspected
Bolpur: A 40 year old medical officer posted at Barabazar Primary Health Centre in Purulia, working here for past 12 years was found dead in her official quarters of a government hospital which was locked from outside.
According to a recent media report in Jharkhand Telegraph, the husband of the doctor, a Medical Representative (MR) is presently on the run with their 4-year-old son and his mobile phone switched off. He has been accused of murder by the family member of the deceased doctor, who added that the doctor had married the MR eight years ago without the consent of her family.
The decomposed body of the woman doctor was found by the police after the neighbours started complaining about a foul odor. It was sent for post-mortem and a case of murder was filed based on a complaint by the family members of the deceased.
The elder brother of the deceased doctor, Salil Kumar Singh, who is also a medical practitioner and works at a Calcutta Municipal Corporation has accused the husband of killing his sister.

"I last spoke to my sister on Monday night when she was with her husband and son. However, I could not contact either my sister or her husband after Wednesday. After I reached Purulia, I came to know that her husband had called up the block medical officer on Tuesday to inform that the doctor was unwell and would not work. I firmly believe he is behind the murder," Salil told Jharkhand Telegraph.
The brother further told the daily, "My sister was unhappy with her married life. There was marital discord as her husband controlled her finances. She was trying to come out of the relationship. "
According to the family members of the victim, the couple had been fighting for some time over financial reasons.
Triggered by the incident, the Indian Medical Association Purulia chapter and Service Doctors' Forum protested against the alleged murder and wrote to the respective police and health department for a high level inquiry into the incidence.
The secretary of IMA's Purulia chapter demanded stern action against the culprit.
Further, pointing out the poor security of the government quarters in Purulia, Sajal Biswas, a senior health official and state general secretary of the Service Doctors' Forum stated, "The murder of the doctor in Purulia has proved the poor security of medical officers in government quarters. We demand better security in all government hospitals and doctors' quarters."
Meanwhile, commenting on the murder, S. Selvamurugan, the Superintendent of Police, Purulia stated that a case of murder has been lodged and the investigation has been initiated. They are waiting for the post mortem to get completed since the body was found decomposed, he added.
A police officer mentioned, "We are trying to nab the husband. That the residence was locked from outside raised our suspicions about him. "
