109-bed modern cancer hub inaugurated at Calcutta Medical College Hospital
Kolkata: To provide advanced and specialised treatment to cancer patients, a 109-bed modern regional cancer hub was launched at Medical College Hospital (MCH) Kolkata.
The specialised cancer centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who holds the health portfolio through virtual mode on Tuesday. It is located in a seven-story building situated on a plot between the main block and the MCH principal's office.
Now, Cancer patients in the state will get modernised treatment facilities with costly medical devices. It has already started functioning and healthcare services for patients have begun following the inauguration.

Medical College, Kolkata, also known as Calcutta Medical College, is a public medical college and hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is one of the oldest existing hospitals in Asia.
Speaking to The Statesman, Prof (Dr) Anjan Adhikari, medical superintendent cum vice principal (MSVP) of the MCH said, “The chief minister officially inaugurated the seven-storied building for both indoor and outdoor patients. All types of modern treatment facilities for cancer patients will be available in our newly-built regional cancer hub."
“There will be all facilities required for radiotherapy and chemotherapy for patients at the centre. The building will have units with highly expensive medical devices starting from citi-simulator, brachytherapy, linear accelerator, nuclear medicine, onco-pathology, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, HDU etc. on different floors. Operation theatres (OTs) for surgical oncology patients have also been set up in the building,” Prof Adhikari added.
Moreover, the state authorities have decided to set up outdoor treatment facilities for cancer patients in secondary and tertiary-level hospitals in response to a steady increase in cancer cases in West Bengal. Furthermore, specific district hospitals have been equipped with chemotherapy units as well.
