1500 New Hospitals Coming to Rural Areas of Bihar Soon

Patna: Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey announced in the Assembly on Thursday that 1,500 new hospitals would be established in rural areas across the state during the financial year 2025-26.

Pandey while replying to a debate on the budgetary demand of the Health Department in the House for the financial year 2025-26, said that Nitish-led NDA government had decided to establish seven new Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Bihar. One Medical College and Hospital each would be opened in seven districts of the state, he added.

According to a UNI report, Pandey said that the state government was also concerned with improving medical facilities in remote villages of Bihar and several steps were taken after the NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was voted to power in the state in 2005.

Primary Health Centres (PHCs) were in shambles in Bihar, having no facilities for the treatment of patients during the RJD regime, he pointed out.

Minister said that 1500 new hospitals would be opened in rural areas across the state during the financial year 2025- 26. Opening of new hospitals in such a large number in rural areas would improve the medical facilities for the people considerably, he added, reports UNI.

Dissatisfied with the reply of the Minister, the entire opposition staged a walkout from the House. Later in the absence of the opposition, the budgetary demand of the Health Department of Rs 20,035.80 crores was passed by voice vote in the House.

According to a media report in the TOI, Highlighting improved healthcare outcomes, Pandey said Bihar's infant mortality rate (IMR) – the number of deaths per 1,000 live births within a year – has dropped from 61 to 27, while the neonatal mortality rate (NMR) – deaths per 1,000 live births within 28 days – has reduced from 32 to 21.
