2 workers killed, 1 injured after soil collapse at under-construction Mohali Hospital

Mohali: A construction site accident at a private hospital in Mohali, Punjab, turned fatal on Thursday after a sudden soil collapse trapped workers in the basement area, leaving two dead and another injured.
The incident occurred at the hospital construction site along Airport Road in Aero City while work was underway.
A portion of the soil reportedly gave way without warning, trapping workers beneath the collapsed section. Rescue teams and local authorities rushed to the site and began removing the soil and debris. Initial information suggested that as many as six people could have been trapped following the collapse.
One injured worker was rescued from the site and shifted to a hospital for treatment. The identities of the two workers who died were not immediately available.

The collapse is believed to have followed heavy rainfall in the area, which may have weakened the soil along one side of the construction site. However, authorities had not established the exact cause of the accident, reports UNI.
Police and local administration officials were present at the site and supervised the rescue efforts. Machinery was deployed to clear the collapsed section and search for any additional workers who might have remained trapped beneath the debris.
The accident occurred while construction work was continuing at the hospital premises, prompting concerns over safety arrangements at the site.
Authorities were continuing rescue operations and assessing the affected section to determine whether anyone else remained trapped. The circumstances surrounding the collapse and the final number of casualties were also subject to further official verification.
The incident has brought renewed focus on safety measures at construction sites involving excavation and soil work, particularly during conditions that could affect ground stability. Further information regarding the deceased workers and the findings of the authorities was awaited as rescue and assessment activities continued.
