25 year-old dies after c-section at Rajasthan Hospital, family stages protest
Jaipur: Following the death of a 25-year-old woman after a C-section delivery at a government Maternal and Child (MCH) Hospital in Rajasthan's Neem Ka Thana. The incident triggered protests by her family and villagers, who alleged medical negligence and demanded action against the doctors and hospital staff.
According to reports, the woman, a resident of Khadra village, was admitted to the hospital on July 12 and delivered a healthy baby girl through a C-section on July 14. The Family alleged that she developed continuous bleeding after the surgery and did not receive timely treatment.
Her condition worsened due to suspected postpartum haemorrhage, following which she was referred to Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chomu, where her family had taken her en route.
Following her death, family members and villagers staged a protest outside the government hospital, demanding strict action against the medical staff and a high-level inquiry into the incident. The protest was later withdrawn after police and district administration officials assured the family that compensation would be provided and appropriate action would be taken if negligence was found.
The hospital administration, however, maintained that the patient received treatment as per protocol. She was found to be anaemic at the time of admission and was given a unit of blood. She underwent the C-section on July 14 and was shifted to the postoperative ward with stable vital signs.
According to The Times of India, the hospital's report stated that she was shifted to the operation theatre at 1 pm on July 14, gave birth to a baby at 1.37 pm, and was moved to the postoperative ward at 2 pm with stable vitals. Around 3.30 pm, she complained of bleeding, after which a senior gynaecologist began treatment for postpartum haemorrhage. She was referred to a higher centre at 5 pm. Dr Kataria said doctors attempted to control the bleeding but referred the patient after her condition became serious.
