Suicide
Varanasi: A 35-year-old cancer patient allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Institute in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi during the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
The deceased was a resident of the village Mohajamma, Paru police station, Muzaffarpur district (Bihar) and had been undergoing treatment at Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Institute for several days for pancreatic cancer. According to the hospital authorities, he was making a satisfactory recovery, reports Times of India.
His family members stated that he had been admitted to the facility about a month ago. After he underwent surgery on Sunday, he was shifted to a ward on the fourth floor.
According to reports, on Tuesday morning around 12:50 AM, the patient allegedly went to the fourth floor of IPD Ward No. 4 of the hospital and jumped down from the building. According to the Daily, the patient took the drastic step while the attendant was sleeping. The noise of the fall sparked panic among hospital staff and security. Many rushed to the scene, only to find that he had died.
The incident led to considerable disruption across the hospital premises. Hospital authorities have expressed deep sorrow and promptly notified the Chitaipur police.
Speaking to Bhaskar, ACP Bhelupur Gaurav Kumar said, “All aspects of the case are being investigated. Hospital administration, staff on duty, and the deceased's family members are being questioned. Additionally, CCTV camera footage installed in the hospital premises is also being scrutinised to confirm the cause of the incident.”
The reason behind the tragic incident is yet to be ascertained as the investigation is underway. A few days ago, a 47-year-old patient undergoing treatment for oral cancer allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the ESIC Hospital in Sector-24, Noida.
