Cancer patient jumps from 5th floor of ESIC Hospital Noida, dies

Noida: In a shocking incident, a 47-year-old patient undergoing treatment for oral cancer allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday by jumping from the fifth floor of the ESIC Hospital in Sector-24, Noida.
The family has accused the hospital authorities of negligence, claiming that no doctor or staff member was present to monitor the patient when he managed to reach the window.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of the Bhangel area of Noida. He had been undergoing treatment at this centre since March 9.
The incident occurred while Kumar's wife, who was staying with him at the hospital as his primary caregiver, had stepped away to the bathroom. When she returned to the ward, she discovered that her husband was no longer there, and shortly thereafter, she discovered that he had opened a window near the staircase and jumped down from it.
According to the IndiaToday media news report, witnesses' accounts and hospital records indicate that he died on the spot. Following the incident, the local police were immediately notified and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. Upon reaching the site, the police sent the victim's body for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was under extreme mental stress due to his prolonged battle with oral cancer, which is believed to be the primary reason behind this extreme step. The police are present at the scene and are taking necessary legal action.
Subsequently, family members are now demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged lack of proper care provided to the patient. However, no statement has been issued by the hospital so far.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that after a delay of 12 years, Mumbai police have registered an FIR against five doctors over alleged medical negligence, delayed treatment, and destruction of crucial medical records in connection with the death of a 23-year-old man.
