45 year old woman dies after liposuction at Thiruvalla wellness clinic, FIR registered

Thiruvalla: Allegations of Medical negligence have emerged following the death of a 45-year-old woman after she underwent a liposuction procedure at a private wellness clinic in Thiruvalla to remove excess fat from her arms. Police have registered a case in connection with her death, while a preliminary report on the findings of an inquiry has also been submitted to the District Medical Officer.
The deceased, a resident of Puthupparambil, Mundukuzhi, Venkotta, underwent the liposuction at a private clinic in Thiruvalla on September 16. According to her relatives, her health condition deteriorated following the surgery, after which she was admitted to a private medical college hospital in Thiruvalla for further treatment.

She died on September 22 while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Speaking to TOI, the complainant alleged that the facility lacked adequate emergency and life-saving infrastructure, including ventilator support, for a cosmetic procedure, and that there was a delay in shifting her to a larger hospital when her condition worsened.
The relatives have sought registration of an FIR and demanded the seizure of case sheets, anaesthesia records and CCTV footage from the facility. They have also sought the constitution of an expert medical board to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
However, authorities of the private clinic denied treatment lapses on their part and said the woman had suffered a heart attack during liposuction, reports Onmanorama.
Police said an FIR had been registered in connection with the unnatural death. Police added that the medical negligence allegations would also be examined following a complaint from the woman's son. A panel of doctors would be required to conduct the medical negligence probe, police said.
An autopsy was conducted, and the woman's funeral was held on Wednesday. She is survived by her husband and two children. Vinu Job, MLA, along with local people's representatives and political leaders, paid their respects to the deceased woman.
