49 district hospitals get geriatric wards in Rajasthan

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has inaugurated specialized geriatric wards in 49 district hospitals across the state, aiming to enhance healthcare services for the elderly population.
These dedicated units, established by the state Health Department under the directive of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, are named 'Ramashray'.
Health Minister Gajendra Singh had included this initiative in the 100-day action plan.

The 'Ramashray' facility has been rolled out in 49 district hospitals statewide.
Speaking on the initiative, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department Shubhra Singh said, "'Ramashray' was made operational in 49 district hospitals within a short period, where special arrangements have been made for the treatment and care of the elderly," reports IANS.
"Nursing alarm systems have been installed near beds so that in case of emergency, the elderly can immediately call the nursing staff. There are separate toilets for male and female patients in the geriatric ward, and grab bars have been installed in these toilets. Also, proper arrangements have been made for physiotherapists and physiotherapy-related equipment in the ward."

Director of Public Health Ravi Prakash Mathur emphasized the appointment of a dedicated nodal officer for each ward, entrusted with overseeing all operational aspects. These officers will be responsible for managing all arrangements efficiently.
Furthermore, to facilitate seamless communication and accessibility, a comprehensive list of telephone numbers for all doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapists, and other essential personnel has been prominently displayed outside the ward. This measure aims to ensure swift and effective coordination among the healthcare team members for the benefit of elderly patients under their care.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the family of a 50-year-old man, who was declared brain dead during a treatment, donated his organs, giving a new lease of life to three patients in Jaipur and Jodhpur.
