50-bed High-Tech Ayurvedic Hospital turned into car shed, facility left unused

50-bedded Ayurvedic Hospital In Chikkamagaluru Turns into a Parking lot
Chikkamagaluru: A high-tech Ayurvedic hospital located near the District Panchayat in Chikkamagaluru, built for Rs 7.5 crore, has failed to fulfil its purpose of offering healthcare to the local community, despite being completed over a year ago. The 50-bed facility remains unused and has instead turned into a parking lot for officials' cars.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in 2022 by former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and the inauguration took place in 2024 under the leadership of current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. However, more than a year after its completion, the hospital remains closed, and instead of offering medical services, it has become a car shed for government officials.
The blame for the hospital’s failure to function has been passed back and forth between political parties.

C.T. Ravi, former MLA for the region, was a key advocate for the establishment of both a medical college and an Ayurvedic hospital in Chikkamagaluru. Yet, despite the combined political power of both major parties in the state, the hospital remains closed.

The failure to open the hospital is especially evident given the urgent healthcare needs of the region. This 50-bed facility, which was built at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.5 crore, has the potential to make a significant impact on the local community. Public representatives, officials, and residents are all demanding that the hospital be opened without further delay to serve the public.
