500-bed ESIC Super Speciality Hospital likely to come up in Amaravati
Vijayawada: In a move aimed at bolstering the state's healthcare infrastructure, the Andhra Pradesh government is working towards setting up a 500-bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) super speciality hospital and a medical college in Amaravati, Guntur.
A detailed proposal for the construction of this multi-speciality hospital was submitted to the state government by the Insurance Medical Services Department, under the direction of V. Anjaneyulu, Director of Insurance Medical Services. The project will include 500 beds for secondary care and an additional 150 beds dedicated to super speciality services. Once completed, this ambitious initiative is expected to address the growing need for comprehensive medical services in the state's capital region.

This proposal was recently discussed during the 194th ESI corporation meeting held on October 8, highlighting the urgency of the project to cater to the growing insured population in Amaravati due to the region's anticipated employment growth. The new hospital project is set to enhance healthcare access for insured workers and their families.
The minister of labour, factories, and insurance medical services, Vasamsetti Subash, stated that the people of AP are elated about this significant development in Amaravati.

As per the recent media report by TOI, Vasamsetti Subash further added, "It aligns with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's vision for rapid growth in the capital region. We foresee an increase in infrastructure, jobs, and other developmental activities. I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Labor and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, for their support in making this vision a reality.”
The proposal is seen to be the necessary step towards filling the healthcare gap created post-bifurcation of the state, as most ESIC facilities are now located in Telangana. This new facility with comprehensive facilities is designed to cater to the needs of over 14.5 lakh ESIC-insured individuals across the state of Andhra Pradesh, including four lakh people from the Amaravati area.
