550 outsourced staff strike at Gurugram Civil Hospital, services disrupted

Gurugram- Operations at Civil Hospital, Gurugram, were disrupted on Thursday after around 550 outsourced Health Department employees went on strike over non-payment of salaries, prompting the hospital administration to make alternative arrangements for patient registration and other essential services.
Workers, including sanitation staff, data entry operators, and Class IV employees, stopped work around 8 a.m., alleging that their salaries for the month had not been credited despite assurances that payment would be released on Thursday.
Speaking to the TOI, one of the protesting workers said, “We did not receive our salary on Wednesday and were told it would be credited. Even today it has not been credited. We are on strike and cannot return to work until the issue is resolved”.
A brief power outage at the hospital also complicated the situation after an ongoing strike by electricity department employees. The power supply was disrupted for about 15 to 20 minutes, and it took another 20 minutes to activate the backup generator after the outage occurred.
Chaos ensued at the hospital due to the strike, as patient registration counters remained closed for nearly two hours. Long queues formed in the registration area as hundreds of patients arrived for treatment.
Subsequently, around 9 a.m., Chief Medical Officer Lokveer Singh intervened and directed the intern to handle registration and restore services.
“The issue is almost resolved. I went there and talked to people who were staging a protest. At present, the situation is under control”, Singh said.
Due to disruptions, many patients and attendants struggled to access services. Patients and hospital staff faced inconvenience for some time as the hospital administration attempted to restore normal operations through alternative arrangements.
Meanwhile, doctors said the administration handled the situation by deploying available staff and implementing emergency measures. Power supply was restored through the backup system, and registration work resumed after the interns were deployed.
Additionally, officials said no major incidents were reported, and essential services continued.
