7 MPs nominated to AIIMS Institute Bodies

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has nominated seven Members of Parliament (MPs) to the Institute Bodies of seven All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), giving them a statutory role in the governance and oversight of the institutes. The nominations were notified by the ministry on September 15, 2026.

The nominations cover AIIMS Awantipora, Bathinda, Bhopal, Guwahati, Jodhpur, Vijaypur and Madurai. The nominated MPs are Gulam Ali for AIIMS Awantipora, Ashok Kumar Mittal for AIIMS Bathinda, Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal for AIIMS Bhopal, Birendra Prasad Baishya for AIIMS Guwahati, Madan Rathore for AIIMS Jodhpur, Sat Paul Sharma for AIIMS Vijaypur and I. S. Inbadurai for AIIMS Madurai.

The nominations have been made under Section 4(g) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956, as amended in 2012. The provision allows the Central Government to nominate Members of Parliament to the Institute Bodies of new AIIMS. TOI reported.

The Institute Body is part of the statutory governance structure of an AIIMS. The nominated MPs will therefore serve as members of these bodies rather than holding administrative posts at the individual institutes.

Their tenure will be governed by Section 6 of the AIIMS Act, according to the ministry notification.

The seven institutions are part of the AIIMS expanded network being developed across different regions of the country. The government’s Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana currently lists Awantipora and Madurai among AIIMS where work is still underway, while Bathinda, Guwahati and Vijaypur have already begun providing varying levels of academic or clinical services.

The latest notification formally places the nominated MPs within the statutory Institute Bodies of these institutions as their development and functioning continue.
