Ahmedabad Civil Hospital security guard accused of assaulting patient's kin

Ahmedabad- An incident of violence has been reported at a civil hospital in Ahmedabad, where a security guard has been accused of physically assaulting and verbally abusing the 25-year-old relative of a patient. The Shahibaug police have registered a case.
The complaint was filed on Saturday by Rahul Marwadi, a resident of Meghaninagar. He stated that he works as a daily-wage labourer and lives with his mother. His grandfather, Madanlal, had been admitted to Ward F-4 of the Civil Hospital for several days, and Rahul used to stay at the hospital overnight to look after him.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on the evening of April 24, when Rahul stepped out of the ward to have tea and snacks. While talking on the phone near the gate of the trauma ward, a security guard approached him and asked him to lower his voice. The argument allegedly escalated further when the guard verbally abused and shoved him.
The victim further alleged that the guard attacked him with a stick, causing injuries to his right shoulder and left leg. The altercation drew the attention of other people present at the scene. Subsequently, he informed his mother about the incident, and she soon arrived at the spot.
As a result of this, he was injured; he received treatment at the hospital's outpatient department and was subsequently discharged.
The following day, he went to the Shahibaug police station with his mother to file a complaint against the security guard.
According to the TOI media news report, the police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the 'Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita' on charges of voluntarily causing hurt and using abusive language.
Meanwhile, officials stated that efforts are underway to fully establish the identity of the accused guard and to verify the sequence of events.
