AIIMS bars doctors, faculties to interact with media, only designated officials with prior approval allowed
New Delhi: Implementing a ban on doctors, faculties and officers from interacting with media, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has clarified that only designated officials will be allowed to talk to media on the issues of functioning of AIIMS after getting prior approval from competent authority.
Issuing an Office Memorandum in this regard on September 24, 2022, AIIMS stated, "It is brought to the notice of all Faculties/ Officers/ Employees of AIIMS that only designated Official will speak with the media after approval from the Competent Authority."
"This issues with the approval of Director (AIIMS), New Delhi," the OM mentioned further.
The premier medical institute AIIMS notified about this ban on media interaction after the new director Dr. M. Srinivas took over.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the appointment of Dr. M Srinivas, Dean, ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad as Director, All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The order, dated 23rd September 2022, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas to the post of Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Therefore, the media ban was notified within 24 hours of the new Director taking over. However, Jagran adds that this ban on media interaction was already in force in the institute and similar orders had been issued to the doctors and staff of AIIMS even during the tenure of the former Director Dr. Randeep Guleria.
After taking over, Dr. Srinivas has also issued another order clarifying that the files should be submitted in electronic mode, except for the confidential ones.
Srinivas, who earlier served as the Dean of ESIC Hospital and Medical College in Hyderabad, is now entrusted with the job of steering the country's most sought-after medical institute. ''All concerned are hereby informed that henceforth all the files be submitted to the undersigned in e-file mode only unless the matter is confidential and cannot be submitted in e-filing mode,'' the office memorandum issued on Saturday said.
