AIIMS Chief bars Security Staff from taking refreshments or eating food during duty hours
New Delhi: In order to ensure better service to the patients, the newly appointed director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi Dr M Srinivas recently barred the security staff from carrying refreshments or eating food during duty hours.
Issuing an Office Memorandum in this regard, Dr Srinivas also clarified that if any of the security staff is found taking refreshments or eating food during duty hours, they will be removed from the rolls of AIIMS.
"It is hereby directed the security staff deployed for security and assistance of patients will not be used for any purpose other than for which they are engaged," read the OM issued by the AIIMS chief on September 29, 2022.
This comes after Dr. Srinivas found one security personnel carrying tea while during his visit to the Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Center (CNC) of AIIMS on Thursday.
Referring to this, the Office Memorandum stated, "During the visit of undersigned to the CNC on 29.09. 2022 it was observed that one of the security staff was carrying tea in a tray on directions of hospital staff posted in her area of responsibility."
Clarifying how it portrays adverse image regarding the security service, the OM further mentioned, "Such incidents not only compromise the security for which the staff has been deployed but also portray an adverse image of security services."

It will also be ensured by the respective faculty -in -charge and officer in -charge of security that the security staff perform the duties as specified in the tender agreement for watch and ward services," the OM also mentioned.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the appointment of Dr. M Srinivas, Dean, ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad as Director, All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The order, dated 23rd September 2022, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas to the post of Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
After taking over, Dr. Srinivas has issued several orders modifying the system. Earlier he had clarified that the files should be submitted in electronic mode, except for the confidential ones. Recently he implemented a ban on doctors, faculties and officers from interacting with media and clarified that only designated officials will be allowed to talk to media on the issues of functioning of AIIMS after getting prior approval from competent authority.
