AIIMS, Delhi appoints Dr Subrata Sinha as new Dean (Academics)
The Faculty Association wrote a letter to the Director of the institute, requesting him to consider seniority while taking decisions regarding the appointment to the post of Dean (Academics) and other senior positions.
New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has appointed Dr Subrata Sinha who is the head of the Department of Biochemistry, Laboratory Medicine, and Dean (Research) as the new Dean (Academics) with effect from July 1.
The former Dean (Academics), Dr Neena Khanna retired on June 30, reports the New Indian Express.

The memorandum issued by AIIMS on this matter stated, "With the approval of President, AIIMS New Delhi, Dr Subrata Sinha Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Laboratory Medicine and Dean (Research) is appointed as Dean (Academic) against a non-substantive post of Dean (Academic) with effect from July 1 in addition to his own existing duties and responsibilities, till further orders." It added, "He will, however, not be entitled to any remuneration/ honorarium for the said assignment."
The appointment of the doctor comes after the Faculty Association wrote a letter to Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of the institute, requesting him to consider seniority while taking decisions regarding the appointment to the post of Dean (Academics) and other senior positions. Dr Sinha is reported to be the senior-most doctor in AIIMS.
The letter was written in response to the director's recommendation of Dr Rama Chowdhary's name for the post of Dean (Academics) even though Dr Rama was not the senior-most candidate, reports TNIE. The director's decision was not based on the seniority of the faculty.
The letter was submitted by the President of the association Dr Achal Kumar Shrivastava and general secretary Dr Harshal Ramesh Salve and it stated, "The faculty members deserve utmost dignity and respect. We believe that seniority in respect to positions such as of the Dean should be maintained and not be overlooked. We request you to consider seniority while making appointments for such senior positions."
The letter noted that the unbiased decision of the administration would further motivate staff to work harder. It said, "We believe that the prevailing rules and norms envisaged in the Constitution of the institute will be followed in appointing a person for such a position."
