AIIMS Delhi: New critical care and infectious diseases block gets clearance
New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has received approval for a new critical care and infectious diseases block, along with a multi-level parking facility, after the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) cleared the revised building plan.
The clearance came after the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) submitted a modified plan addressing observations raised by DUAC when it withheld approval in September 2024. The revised submission included updated drawings, photographs and responses to the commission’s earlier recommendations.
DUAC has now approved the project, subject to compliance with conditions relating to parking, building design, utility installations and sustainability.
The commission has asked the project authorities to ensure that the parking arrangements meet the prescribed norms. It has also directed that visible service infrastructure such as diesel generators, exhaust systems, water tanks, air-conditioning units, plumbing and rainwater pipes be adequately screened or incorporated into the overall design.
The commission has additionally mandated a public artwork of an appropriate scale within the complex. Any alteration to the approved artwork will require prior clearance.
The commission also suggested the use of solar panels on a suitably designed structural frame, subject to building bye-laws. According to DUAC, such a design could improve space utilisation, facilitate maintenance, provide shading and help reduce heat load, reports ET Healthworld.
The proposed facility is part of AIIMS Delhi’s broader expansion plans and is to come up at the JPN Apex Trauma Centre. AIIMS documents have listed the critical care and infectious diseases block among projects awaiting execution.
With the revised building plan now cleared by DUAC, the project has moved past an important approval stage and can proceed subject to the remaining implementation requirements.
