AIIMS-modelled Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences to transform medical education

Jaipur: Rajasthan is set to establish the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), modelled after the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to revolutionise medical education and healthcare delivery in the state. This move follows the introduction of the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2025, in the state Assembly on Monday.
The bill seeks to empower the state government to grant "government college" status to constituent colleges of the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) — paving the way for the establishment of the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

In the present scenario, a need is being felt for a medical institute that would pioneer medical advancements and become a Centre of Excellence for medical education, research, and patient care in Rajasthan. For this reason, an announcement was made by the CM that an institute, named Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), shall be established on the pattern of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to give new dimensions to super speciality medical treatment in Rajasthan.
According to Economic Times, the Bill's statement of objects and reasons states, "Since the Rajasthan Assembly was not in session, and circumstances existed which rendered it necessary for the Governor of Rajasthan to take immediate action, he, therefore, promulgated the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 (Ordinance No. 1 of 2025) on July 26, 2025, which was published in the Rajasthan Gazette, Part IV(B), Extraordinary, dated August 1, 2025.”
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the recent decision of the Rajasthan Government to transfer the State Cancer Institute (SCI), till now operating under SMS Medical College, to the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has raised concerns over the future of the doctors working at the institute, the postgraduate medical seats, and patient care.
