New Delhi: The list featuring the World's Best Hospitals 2025 was published by Newsweek in partnership with Statista. According to the global data platform Statista, the number of hospitals worldwide is projected to reach 215,977 by 2026.

Newsweek and Statista released the list of World's Best Hospitals 2025, which shares the top hospitals worldwide, as well as ranked by country. The list includes a total number of 100 hospitals from India, including 3 hospitals getting featured among the top 250 hospitals.

The 2025 list of World's Best Hospitals includes best hospitals from 30 countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

These countries were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living, life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals, and data availability, Newsweek has mentioned.

It also added that the 2025 ranking is based on an extensive evaluation process, including an online survey of thousands of medical experts (doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals), patient experience data, hospital quality metrics, and a Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) Implementation Survey.

Even though the survey ranked more than 2,400 hospitals, the list has highlighted the top 250 hospitals worldwide.

Indian Hospitals ranked one of the top 250 Hospitals Worldwide:

In the list, three hospitals from India have ranked among the top 250 hospitals.

(1) All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi:

New Delhi-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has ranked 97 in the list of top 250 hospitals across the world.

(2) Medanta The Medicity:

Gurugram-based Medanta The Medicity has ranked 146 in Newsweek's list of top 250 hospitals.

(3) PGIMER:

Chandigarh-based Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has also featured as one of the top 250 hospitals across the world. It has ranked 228 in the World's Best Hospitals 2025, prepared by Newsweek and Statista.

Apart from these three, altogether 97 other hospitals from India have secured their place in the list of World's Best Hospitals 2025. These 100 hospitals include- The Christian Medical College, Vellore, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute, Breach Candy Hospital, P.D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research, Mumbai, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, and many others.

Top Ten Hospitals Across the World:

As per the list, the top 10 hospitals across the world are as follows:

(1) Mayo Clinic - Rochester, Minnesota, USA

(2) Cleveland Clinic- Ohio, USA

(3) Toronto General - University Health Network, Canada

(4) The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Maryland, USA

(5) Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset, Stockholm, Sweden

(6) Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts, USA

(7) Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany

(8) Sheba Medical Center, Israel

(9) Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Singapore

(10) Universitätsspital Zürich, Switzerland

The lists are based on four data sources:

1. Online Survey: Newsweek and Statista invited tens of thousands of medical experts (doctors, hospital managers, and health care professionals) in 30 countries to participate in an online survey. Participants were asked to recommend hospitals in their own country as well as in other countries. Recommendations for own employer/hospital were not allowed.

2. Patient Satisfaction: Results from patient experience surveys were incorporated into the scoring model. Publicly available data from existing patient surveys was used to analyze patient experience. Patient surveys are typically conducted by insurance companies among patients after hospitalization. Examples of survey topics include general satisfaction with the hospital, recommendation of the hospital, and satisfaction with medical care.

3. Hospital Quality Metrics: Quality metrics from a variety of public sources were collected for most countries. Quality metrics differ between countries. Examples of incorporated data include metrics on the quality of care for specific treatments, hygiene measures, and the number of patients per doctor or nurse.

4. PROMs Implementation Survey: For the third time, a PROMs implementation score has been included in the scoring model of the World's Best Hospitals project. In the fall and winter of 2024, Newsweek and Statista reached out to hospitals and conducted a survey about the implementation and use of PROMs.
