AIIMS Patna Chief Cashier suspended over alleged Rs 50 lakh embezzlement

AIIMS Patna
Patna: In a shocking case raising serious questions about financial irregularities at a premier health institution, an alleged embezzlement of nearly Rs 50 lakh has been uncovered at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna. The irregularities came to light during an internal audit, prompting swift administrative action.
Following the audit findings, AIIMS Patna has suspended the Chief Cashier with immediate effect and initiated a departmental inquiry into the matter. The official has been relieved of all financial responsibilities to ensure a fair and impartial probe.

According to the preliminary investigation, multiple unauthorized transactions were carried out between different cash accounts without proper documentation or approval from competent authorities. The audit team identified an unaccounted sum of approximately Rs 50 lakh.
“The matter has been taken seriously, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated in accordance with the established rules and procedures of the institute. It is also noted that the employee concerned has since returned the amount in question. However, the return of the amount does not preclude or affect the ongoing disciplinary process,” an official statement said, reports TOI.
Officials assured that the investigation would remain unbiased and evidence-based, and that appropriate action would be taken once the inquiry is concluded. Speaking to Medical Drafts, AIIMS sources have stated that the accused employee admitted to the embezzlement during questioning and disclosed that the funds had been invested in the stock market. The administration has confirmed that the embezzled amount has since been returned. However, further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the misconduct.
AIIMS authorities have stated that if the allegations are proven, strict disciplinary action will follow. This may include dismissal from service and initiation of legal proceedings under applicable laws. The case could also be referred to the police or other investigative agencies if required.
