Alleged Negligence: Investigation Launched into Infant's Death at Rajasthan Health Centre
Kota: Following the death of a 6-month-old child at a community health centre (CHC) in Rajasthan's Bundi district, a committee has been formed to probe the matter after his family alleged medical negligence by the medical staff.
The family alleged an oxygen snag due to power failure led to the incident and the ambulance was not called on time.
However, district medical authorities refuted the allegation.
The boy, identified as Banti, son of Bharti was brought to the community health centre (CHC) in Dei town in the emergency ward around 6 pm on Sunday, the officials said.
According to a PTI report, The baby was put on Ambu bag support in critical condition after he came in with high fever and breathing complications, in-charge of the CHC Dr Yogesh Panwar said.
The doctor on duty after primary medical care referred the baby to higher medical care centre, Panwar said.
Despite adverse weather conditions and an interruption in electricity supply due to strong winds, the baby continued to receive support through the Ambu bag, and an ambulance was promptly summoned, he added.
The child succumbed to death while being shifted to the ambulance, the doctor added.
The family of the deceased staged a protest outside the hospital on Monday morning, alleging negligence on the part of the staff and demanding their suspension. They claimed that the child's death was a result of an interrupted oxygen supply due to a power failure.
The protestors were pacified after they were assured of fair investigation in the matter, Circle Officer DSP Shankar Lal Meena said.
Dr O P Samer, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Bundi, refuted allegations of negligence by the hospital staff and interruption in oxygen supply. He stated that the infant was on Ambu bag support and passed away during the transfer to the ambulance.
However, based on allegations by the child’s family, the CMO formed a committee has been formed to probe the matter and submit the report, officials said.
Meanwhile, the CMO visited the CHC in Dei on Monday and recorded statements of the aggrieved family, news agency PTI reported.
