Alwar hospital sealed after pregnant woman dies during delivery

Jaipur: The Rajasthan health department has sealed a private hospital in Alwar after a pregnant woman died during a delivery allegedly conducted by a nursing staff member in the absence of a doctor, officials said on Friday.
According to officials, the action was taken against Nishu Hospital located in the Nangla Raisis area after the incident came to light.
The incident occurred on August 4, in the absence of a doctor, a nursing staff member allegedly conducted the delivery of a pregnant woman, who later died, news agency PTI reported.

Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Gayatri Rathore said strict action has been initiated and directions have been issued to lodge an FIR against the hospital.
She said that under the provisions of the Clinical Establishments Act, the hospital’s licence has been cancelled and all its activities have been stopped with immediate effect following detection of irregularities.
Officials said action has also been recommended against the hospital operator to the medical council, and against a nursing staff member to the nursing council.
Rathore said prompt and strict action was taken as soon as the incident came to notice.
The principal secretary also reviewed maternal and child health services and cases of maternal mortality through a video conference at the Health Bhawan on Friday.
She directed officials to take strict action in cases of negligence in maternal and child health services and ensure timely and accurate updating of health data of pregnant women.
Rathore also emphasised the need for effective monitoring of maternal health services and early identification of high-risk pregnancies to ensure better healthcare delivery, officials added.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district has been sealed by the State Health Department over allegations of conducting illegal abortions and trafficking newborn babies, officials said.
