Family alleged negligence after pregnant woman dies at Nagpur Hospital

Nagpur: Allegations of medical negligence have surfaced after a six-month pregnant woman and her unborn child died during treatment at a private hospital in Nagpur, triggering protests by grieving family members and prompting a police inquiry into the incident.

According to the news reports, the woman, a resident of Bidipeth, was admitted to Sukhkarta Hospital at around 3 am on Saturday after she complained of severe abdominal pain.

Relatives alleged that the woman’s condition deteriorated on Sunday afternoon, but despite repeated requests, no senior doctor attended to her. They claimed that only nursing staff provided treatment and alleged that timely intervention by a specialist could have saved both the mother and her unborn child.

According to the family, she was referred to Yash Hospital in Dighori after her condition became critical. However, doctors there reportedly declared both the woman and the foetus dead upon examination.

The deaths sparked outrage among family members and relatives, who gathered at Sukhkarta Hospital with her body and staged a protest on the premises. Demonstrators raised slogans against the hospital administration, accusing it of negligence and demanding strict action against those responsible.

The protest led to tense scenes outside the hospital before personnel from Hudkeshwar Police arrived and brought the situation under control. Police officials assured the family that their complaint would be thoroughly investigated.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, police said the inquiry would be conducted on the basis of the family’s complaint, medical records and other available evidence. Appropriate legal action will be initiated if the investigation establishes any instance of medical negligence.

The management of Sukhkarta Hospital had not issued an official statement on the allegations at the time of reporting.

The incident has shocked the local community, with residents calling for a fair and impartial investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability if negligence is found.
