Apollo Hospitals Bhubaneswar Sets Milestone with Successful Liver Transplants
Bhubaneswar: In a major achievement, Apollo Hospitals Bhubaneswar performed two back-to-back liver transplants within a fortnight. With this achievement, the hospital has joined the list of facilities in the city offering cadaveric liver transplantation.
The hospital embarked on this new journey by performing its first living donor liver transplant on December 18. Less than three weeks later, on January 4, the hospital successfully conducted its first cadaveric liver transplant. Both recipients are now in stable condition and recovering well.
These surgeries were carried out by a dedicated team of transplant surgeons, led by Dr Soumen Roy. The first successful liver transplant was performed on 58-year-old Subrat Kumar Mishra, a resident of Cuttack, who had been battling decompensated chronic liver disease for the past three years. His condition progressively worsened, eventually leading to liver failure, prompting him to seek treatment at Apollo Hospitals. The donor in this case was discharged 10 days ago, while the recipient was discharged on Wednesday.
