Bihar sets up Cancer Care and Research Society amid rising cases

Patna: The Bihar government has announced the establishment of a separate and dedicated body, the Bihar Cancer Care and Research Society, to provide timely treatment to cancer patients.
This initiative comes in response to a surge in cancer patients following their screening as a preventive measure across the state.
According to a UNI news report, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said here on Monday that a separate and dedicated body has been set up for prevention, treatment, and proper management of cancer in the state. The Society would especially work on cancer care and research.
Pandey said that “The state has been carrying out historic and far-reaching improvement in the health sector.

Terming it as an unprecedented step, Pandey said that the initiative to set up a dedicated Society is an important step for providing integrated, organised and easily available services relating to cancer.
He said it has also been decided to further strengthen the existing system for the treatment of cancer, given a surge in the number of patients following the screening process to identify the patients suffering from the disease as a preventive measure. It would ensure an early and timely start of treatment, creating awareness campaigns and research in the field.
Bihar Cancer Care and Research Society will work as a separate and top body to provide timely and proper treatment to patients, Pandey said.
Besides, carrying out an effective public awareness programme and strengthening the medical system through proper training and research in this field are other key functions of the body, he informed.
