Bihar to set up newborn child care units at district level, says Minister Mangal Pandey

Patna: Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that Newborn Care Units (NCUs) will be launched at 13 places in February, making the state the first one in the country, where NCUs will operate at the district level.

According to a UNI report, after reviewing the state health committee's progress in a meeting here on Friday Pandey said that kit would be given to the beneficiaries under schemes. He directed the authorities to increase the institutional deliveries and asked them to ensure the availability of machines at the hospitals in the blocks.

He said that mobile eye screening vehicle would be initiated soon in the state. Mobile bike portable testing kits would start from the March to make Bihar free from tuberculosis.

The Minister later inaugurated the cardiovascular cath lab system and emergency department at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. He said that now the people of the state would get the modern treatment within the state.

The Minister said that the number of beds would be increased up to 3247 in near future with the assistants of the central government, news agency UNI reported.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently visited Saran district as part of his Pragati Yatra, where he laid the foundation stone of several development projects in Chapra and inaugurated a government medical college and hospital in Chapra. Chhapra Medical College has been constructed at a cost of Rs 425 crore to provide advanced health facilities to the people of Saran division, which was inaugurated by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday. The land for the construction of the medical college has been given by the authorities of Jai Prakash University in Chhapra.
