Bihar to get Rs 215 crore Orthopaedic Hospital: Health Minister Mangal Pandey

Mangal Pandey
Patna: Health Minister Mangal Pandey, newly reinstated for the fourth time, has announced a major push to strengthen Bihar’s healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of the country’s largest orthopaedic hospital.
According to the minister, a 400-bed, state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Hospital will be built near the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Orthopaedic Hospital at a cost of Rs 215 crore, with a targeted completion timeline of just three months. The facility aims to benefit patients across Bihar suffering from bone and joint-related ailments.

In addition to infrastructure development, the Health Minister highlighted a major recruitment push to fill over 26,000 vacant posts in the state’s health department. By December, 663 General Medical Officers and 808 Dentist positions will be filled, while examinations for 11,389 Staff Nurse posts and 12,627 paramedical positions—including pharmacists, lab technicians, X-ray and ECG technicians, dressers, operation theatre assistants, and dental hygienists—have already been completed.
Under the National Health Mission (NHM), the state will further strengthen its workforce by filling 220 Ophthalmic Assistant posts, 1,504 AYUSH Medical Officer positions, over 5,000 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives, and several other key roles. Overall, around 32,700 appointments are expected to be completed within the next four months, according to Pandey.
