Bihar to upgrade ANMMCH Gaya into Super-Speciality Hospital

Patna: Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya, will be transformed into a modern super-speciality hospital as part of a major redevelopment and expansion plan to strengthen healthcare services in the Magadh region.

According to the news reports, Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar on Thursday reviewed the master plan for the project during a meeting with Health Department Secretary Kumar Ravi and senior officials. The review focused on improving infrastructure, expanding advanced medical services, enhancing medical education facilities and modernising healthcare delivery at the institution.

The minister directed officials and executing agencies to ensure quality construction, transparency in implementation and timely completion of the project. He emphasised that the master plan should be prepared considering the increasing patient load and the need to incorporate modern healthcare technologies.

“The reconstruction and modernisation of ANMMCH will give a new direction to healthcare in the region. Construction work should be completed within the stipulated timeframe without affecting ongoing patient care,” Nishant said, reports TOI.

Under the proposed redevelopment plan, the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL) will oversee several key projects, including the construction of modern student hostels and a new mortuary complex. The plan also includes renovation of existing hostels and strengthening of the hospital’s power supply infrastructure.

During the meeting, the minister also reviewed ANMMCH’s clinical performance. The hospital recorded significant patient activity in June 2026, treating 36,155 outpatients, admitting 2,965 patients, and managing 1,166 emergency cases. The institution also conducted 460 major surgeries and 2,693 minor surgeries during the month.

Officials said the proposed upgrade would significantly improve access to specialised healthcare services for people across the Magadh region and reduce the need for patients to travel to Patna and other major cities for advanced treatments.

Nishant Kumar directed officials to ensure regular monitoring and periodic reviews of the project, calling the redevelopment a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.
