Bomb threat email triggers heightened security at Kozhikode Medical College

Kozhikode: Following a bomb threat email received by the authorities of Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), security and surveillance across the campus have been significantly tightened. Police officials confirmed that multiple inspections by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad found the threat to be a hoax, though heightened vigilance continues.

According to preliminary investigations, the threatening email was received on January 7 at the official email address of Medical College Principal Sajeev Kumar. The message claimed that three bombs had been planted within the medical college premises and urged authorities to immediately evacuate the facility.

The email was reportedly traced to an origin in Tamil Nadu, prompting the involvement of hi-tech crime inquiry cells from both Kerala and Tamil Nadu to identify the source at the earliest.

Speaking to the Hindu, police sources said the entry and exit of patients and caregivers were brought under close check on Thursday (January 8, 2026) in the wake of the latest threat. Based on the first phase investigation, they ruled out any serious threat and said periodic inspections would continue. More plainclothes men were posted on duty to monitor the security arrangements in the area.

Security guards stationed at the medical college were instructed to remain on high alert and intensify screening procedures. The out-patient department (OPD) has been placed under round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.
