Cancer patient found dead at SGPGIMS Lucknow, probe underway

Lucknow- In a shocking incident, a patient undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow was found dead with his throat slit inside the hospital premises, said police.
According to reports, hospital staff found the patient in a critical condition after he had allegedly injured himself with a blade on Monday morning. Doctors and medical staff immediately rushed to the scene and administered emergency treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The police were immediately informed following the incident, after which they soon arrived at the hospital.
According to officials, the deceased had been battling liver cancer and was admitted to the SGPGIMS for approximately one month.
Preliminary findings suggest that he was reportedly under severe mental stress due to financial difficulties associated with his prolonged illness and increasing medical expenses.
As per the India Today media report, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amit Kumar Anand stated that the deceased has been identified as Mushtaq Ali (61), a resident of Basti district, who was suffering from liver cancer.
Meanwhile, the body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances of death. The police stated that further details would emerge only after a detailed investigation.
Investigators stated that they are examining all aspects of the case, including how the patient managed to obtain a blade inside the hospital despite security protocols. As part of the investigation, statements from hospital staff, attendants, and family members are also being recorded.
Officials stated that necessary legal formalities are being completed, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
This incident spread panic among patients, their companions, and hospital staff, following which security personnel immediately cordoned off the area.
