Chattisgarh: CMHO seals hospital allegedly running without licence

Raipur: The Dayawati hospital in Uslapur has been recently shut down by the Chattisgarh Health Department due to a lack of proper legal documents needed to run the hospital.

Complaints started piling up from the patients about the unavailability of doctors at the hospital needed for the treatment and the high charges taken during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide covid treatment. In order to obtain necessary treatment, the patients had to travel a great distance.

After an inspection conducted by the health department on January 10, it was revealed that the hospital was running without registration along with other reasons. The health officials submitted the report to the district committee under the Nursing Home Act and a legal notice directing to close the hospital in seven days was issued by the health department on May 26. In response to the notice, the hospital did not follow the order.

On Wednesday morning, Bilaspur Chief Medical Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Pramod Mahajan along with a team of medical officials sealed the hospital. The hospital was made operational during the COVID-19 pandemic to admit covid patients and treat them. As a result, it was made without being registered.

A health official told TOI "The hospital was opened during the peak Covid time and operated without any registration. There were complaints of the absence of regular doctors at the hospital. A team of health officials inspected the hospital and found that it does not have a licence along with a violation of provisions of the Nursing Home Act. Hospital authorities maintained that an application has been submitted for the licence but they have not received it yet."
