CM Naidu expands eye care with new LV Prasad Centre in Krishna district

Inauguration
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the LV Prasad Eye Care Centre at Gudlavalleru in Krishna district on Friday, marking a significant expansion of specialised eye care services in rural and semi-urban regions of the state.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Health Minister Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav and Mr. Gullapalli Nageswara Rao, Founder Chairman of the LV Prasad Eye Institute, along with local administrators, healthcare professionals, and members of the community, reports The Indian Express.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu highlighted the need to strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots level, stating that establishing specialised facilities closer to rural populations would reduce dependency on urban centres and ensure timely medical intervention. He underlined that improved access to quality eye care services is essential for enhancing overall public health outcomes.

The Chief Minister further acknowledged the contribution of industrialist Mr. Jasti Venkata Subba Rao, Chairman of Suven Life Sciences, for financially supporting the initiative. He said such philanthropic efforts play a vital role in bridging gaps in healthcare delivery and expanding services to underserved communities.
Officials said the centre can handle about 50,000 outpatient visits and nearly 5,000 surgeries each year, significantly increasing specialised eye care in the region. Mr. Naidu also appreciated the LV Prasad Eye Institute’s non-profit approach and its continued efforts to deliver affordable services across multiple states.
Referring to broader healthcare priorities, he noted that the state government has increased its budget allocation for the health sector to Rs 19,305 crore, indicating a stronger focus on infrastructure and service delivery. He further pointed out that large-scale initiatives such as cataract surgeries and school-level eye screening programmes are being actively implemented to address vision-related issues.
After the inauguration, officials presented an overview of the facility’s services, and the Chief Minister interacted with doctors, staff, and beneficiaries.
