Jamshedpur Sadar Hospital inaugurates 100-bed wing and sickle cell anaemia laboratory

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari on Wednesday inaugurated a 100-bed modern wing and a sickle cell anaemia laboratory at East Singhbhum Sadar Hospital.
The sickle cell anaemia laboratory has been developed in co-operation with Tata Steel Foundation, an official statement said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ansari stated that the infrastructure expansion will strengthen the health services.
"We will develop district hospitals to minimise the need for referral... The state government is committed to providing quality healthcare facilities. The hospital has been developed in line with modern healthcare standards and will have trained doctors and nurses," he said, reports PTI.
Ansari said that earlier, there was not a single sickle cell anaemia laboratory in the entire Kolhan region, comprising East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan districts.
Speaking to TOI, Dr Pall said, “Early diagnosis is key to managing sickle cell disease. The testing facility will help the state detect cases faster and provide treatment at an early stage''.
The officials at the Sadar Hospital said that the state government has given the land, CCMB is providing the high-end, expansive machine, while TSF will bear the cost of the facility.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Jharkhand government has launched a statewide screening campaign for thalassemia, sickle cell disease and anaemia, aiming to address the long-standing gap in accurate health data for these serious conditions. Health Minister Irfan Ansari said that, unlike most states, Jharkhand lacks clear district-wise information on the number of patients affected, which has hindered effective treatment and planning. Ansari stated, “No district in Jharkhand has precise data on thalassemia and sickle cell patients. These are severe diseases, and treatment will be ensured within the state under all circumstances. Our goal is to make Jharkhand free from thalassemia and sickle cell disease.”
