Couple arrested after toddler allegedly abducted from Nizamabad Hospital
Nizamabad: A two-and-a-half-year-old boy was allegedly abducted from the premises of Mother & Child Hospital (MCH), a wing of Government General Hospital in Nizamabad, while he was at the facility with his parents for treatment. Police rescued the child within 24 hours and arrested a couple allegedly involved in the abduction.
According to police, the incident occurred around 10.30 am on Saturday when the child was with his family inside the hospital. An unidentified woman allegedly approached the toddler and his elder brother in a corridor and offered the younger child a chocolate.
According to India Today, the woman allegedly used the chocolate to gain the toddler's attention and then took him away from the hospital premises. The incident was reportedly captured on the hospital's CCTV cameras. The elder brother noticed that the woman had left with the child and informed their parents, who then alerted the police.
Following the complaint, police registered a kidnapping case and launched an immediate search operation. Special teams were formed and sent to Hyderabad, Kamareddy, Nanded in Maharashtra and other locations based on information about the possible movement of the child and the suspects.
The investigation eventually led police to Doulthabad bus stand in Sangareddy district. With assistance from Sangareddy police, the Nizamabad police team traced and arrested the alleged accused couple and safely recovered the toddler.
Police subsequently brought the child back to Nizamabad and handed him over to his father. The police commissioner announced the rescue at One Town police station on Sunday evening.
The investigation is continuing to establish why the child was allegedly abducted, how the accused planned to take him from the hospital and whether anyone else was involved in the incident.
The case also highlights the vulnerability of young children in crowded healthcare facilities, where parents and attendants may have to manage treatment, paperwork and movement between different sections of the hospital.
