Dhanbad Sadar Hospital to Upgrade Services with Private Specialist Doctors
Dhanbad: In a move to enhance the healthcare services at the Sadar Hospital, the Dhanbad district administration is planning to enlist the services of private specialist doctors to provide better treatment to patients. This initiative seeks to meet the standards of corporate healthcare centres.
As per the recent media report by the Jharkhand Story, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhwi Mishra stated that the district administration is committed to offering top-quality medical services to patients at Sadar Hospital, ensuring care that surpasses corporate health centres.
During her visit, Mishra observed that several specialist doctors are currently working in private hospitals across the district. She highlighted that the district administration was preparing a draft to engage these private specialists at Sadar Hospital to enhance the hospital's capacity to provide specialized care. The DC further stated that a meeting with private nursing home operators will be held soon.
Sadar Hospital, which has been a crucial healthcare facility for residents of Dhanbad, was revived in 2019 following a directive from the Jharkhand High Court. The revival efforts were largely attributed to the persistent efforts of Sadar MLA Raj Sinha. The Jharkhand High Court took cognizance of the deteriorating condition of the hospital and ordered its restoration. Initially, the hospital began functioning with a few doctors who were hired on contract through the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT).
In November 2023, the state government assigned more than a dozen Senior Residents (postgraduate doctors) to Sadar Hospital to address staffing shortages. However, their deputation was terminated in July 2024 by the National Medical Commission (NMC), and they were subsequently reassigned to their respective medical colleges.
During her inspection, DC Mishra interacted with patients in both the male and female wards to gather feedback on the healthcare facilities and services. She also personally reviewed the hospital’s critical units, including the Newborn Stabilization Unit (NBSU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), operation theatre (OT), fire safety arrangements, and other important amenities.
