Family alleges negligence after 36-year-old man's death at Dera Bassi Hospital

Medical Negligence?
Mohali: In a shocking incident, a 36-year-old man died at a private hospital on the Dera Bassi–Ambala road in Mohali, with his family alleging gross medical negligence during the course of his treatment.
The deceased, a resident of GBP Society in Dera Bassi, was admitted on April 4 after he reportedly experienced mild chest pain. According to his family, he drove himself to the hospital, was admitted and underwent a cardiac stent procedure.

The family alleged that his condition worsened shortly after the procedure. They claim that doctors later informed them about a brain blockage and proceeded with brain surgery. Following the operation, the patient allegedly never regained consciousness and was placed on a ventilator support. He was declared dead on April 13, around 5 pm.
The grieving family, including his wife, brother, and father, has accused the hospital of gross negligence, alleging that the brain surgery was conducted without proper communication and that the patient was kept on a ventilator unnecessarily to extract lakhs of rupees. They have held two doctors on the case responsible for the alleged lapse.
The family created a ruckus in the hospital and accused the doctors of negligence. The police reached the spot and assured the family of an investigation, reports Tribune India.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Dr Vineesh Narula, GM Operations of the hospital, expressed grief over the patient’s death, but refuted the allegations as baseless. “We have their consent, and we had already informed the patient’s family about possible complications. After the heart procedure, a CT scan revealed a clot in the brain, which was treated accordingly. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we could not save him,” Narula added.
Meanwhile, Dera Bassi Station House Officer Inspector Sumit Mor confirmed that a complaint has been received from the family. The body has been placed at the hospital, and a medical board will be constituted by the Civil Surgeon, Mohali, to investigate the matter. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
