From Cancer Medicines to Insulins: AIIMS Expands Free Medication List

New Delhi: In a commendable move towards increasing healthcare accessibility, the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has broadened its scope of free medications. An additional 63 drugs have been included in the institute's free medicine list, taking the count from 296 to 359.

The AIIMS Director, Dr M Srinivas, announced this expansion, emphasizing that the decision would majorly benefit the economically disadvantaged sectors of the society. He remarked, “It's not just about adding medicines; it's about extending our commitment to the community, especially to those in dire need.”

Among the newly included medicines are crucial drugs including Palbociclib, Dasatinib, Methotrexate, Trimazet, Magesterol Acetate, and Leucovorin. Furthermore, the list now features insulin variants like injection regular insulin, injection NPH Insulin, and injection Insulin Premix 30/70. These are indispensable for diabetic patients and can often weigh heavily on their pockets.

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Dr Rima Dada, the Professor in-charge of the Media Cell at AIIMS, said, “For several patients, the AIIMS pharmacy represents more than just a place to get medicine; it's a beacon of hope. Many individuals rely heavily on these free medications due to their financial constraints.”

AIIMS' commitment to free and accessible healthcare has always been its hallmark, and this recent expansion reinforces its role as a leader in public health service. Dr Dada further added, “This endeavor resonates perfectly with the government’s broader vision of making top-tier healthcare not just available but also affordable for all Indian citizens.”
