Haryana Designates 100 Hospitals as First Referral Units to Strengthen Healthcare Access
Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao on Thursday announced that 100 health institutions under the National Health Mission (NHM) have been designated as First Referral Units (FRUs) to enhance secondary healthcare services across the state.
According to the news reports, the distribution of the FRUs across districts includes six each in Jhajjar, Karnal, and Jind; five each in Ambala, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Hisar, Nuh, Sirsa, Kurukshetra, and Sonepat; four each in Gurugram, Kaithal, Mahendragarh, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rewari, Bhiwani, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar; and two in Charkhi Dadri.
Minister Rao emphasized that these FRUs are being developed to provide round-the-clock emergency services. Key facilities, including maternity services, newborn care, and blood storage, will be available at these centres. “This will ensure immediate and effective medical assistance in emergency situations related to mothers and newborn babies,” She added.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Minister Rao said that these FRUs will serve as an important link between Primary Health Centres and tertiary hospitals. “The government is giving special focus to strengthening infrastructure at these centres, deploying specialist medical staff, and making the referral system faster and more effective, “ Rao added.
She further said that, through this initiative, the state govt aims to bring a significant reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Haryana. With the strengthening of these units, pregnant women and newborns will receive timely and quality treatment, reports TOI.
