Haryana: ESIC Medical College and Hospital to start robotic surgery on cancer patients soon
Work on the scheme will begin soon after the centre approves the proposal. It is considered the first government medical college in the state to start robotic surgery on cancer patients.
Faridabad: In a move to provide relief to cancer patients, ESIC Medical College and Hospital on the lines of Delhi-Mumbai hospitals will soon start robotic surgery on patients. The machine would be installed at a cost of Rs 30 crore.
Work on the scheme will begin soon after the centre approves the proposal. It is considered the first government medical college in the state to start robotic surgery on cancer patients.
With the advancements in treatment, including the latest, 'robotic surgery,' and its next step, 'Artificial intelligence,' the patients would get top-notch treatments and a lot safer than any other available options. Robotic surgery would also decrease the rate of hospitalization aiming for a faster recovery of the patients.
Around 6.5 lakh ESI card holders would benefit from the facility at NIT-3 ESIC Medical College and Hospital. With robotic surgery, the process will be sped up, resulting in fewer patients having to wait to have surgery.

Less blood loss during the procedure, decreased hospital stay, less painful surgery, smaller scars, better cosmesis, better dissection and retrieval for cancer patients and shorter post-operative recovery are some big benefits. The patient may resume work early. These are some patient-specific benefits.
Dr Asim Das, Dean, ESIC Medical College and Hospital told Amar Ujala, "The surgery will be accurate, there will be no omission. There is scope for mistakes many times while doing the operation by hand. In this case, another vein or cells are cut. After performing surgery with the help of the robot, surgery will be done by marking the surgery organ with an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI machine and giving commands accordingly on the computer. There will be no room for error in this. Surgery would be even better."
"Most of the small and large intestine surgery, appendix, gall bladder stones and cancer surgery, kidney surgery, colon cancer operation will be helped by robotic surgery. With the help of robots, bariatric surgery will also be easy to get rid of obesity. Metabolism surgery can also be done to get rid of diabetes. ESIC Medical College is working towards providing world-class facilities to the patients. Facilities like angioplasty for heart patients, dialysis for kidney patients etc. have already been started. A kidney transplant will also start soon," he added.
