Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences to get Rs 27.93 crore for infrastructure upgrade

State Sanctions Rs 27.93 Crore to Equip Hassan Super-Speciality Hospital
Hassan: Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, who also serves as the Minister-in-charge of Hassan, announced on Thursday that the State Cabinet has approved Rs 27.93 crore for enhancing infrastructure at the upcoming super-speciality hospital in Hassan.
According to the news reports, the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences had submitted a proposal seeking funds for setting up a cardiac unit with a cath lab facility, along with the necessary equipment for the departments of neurology, neurosurgery, and cardiothoracic surgery.

Earlier this year, on September 22, the State government had sanctioned Rs 9 crore to complete the pending works of the super speciality hospital in Hassan. After being assigned charge of Hassan district in August 2025, Minister Byregowda visited the hospital and held a meeting with concerned officers on September 6.
The decision comes after multiple protests by progressive organisations in Hassan, demanding better health facilities in the district, particularly in response to reports of deaths due to heart-related issues. The expanded facilities, particularly the cardiac unit with a cath lab, are expected to significantly strengthen the district’s capacity to provide advanced medical care.
