Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a major turn of events, popular Tamil film actor Kanja Karuppu who is known for playing comedic roles, sparked a commotion at the Porur Government Hospital in Chennai on Tuesday. He staged a protest after patients were left waiting for hours without receiving any medical attention. As per the news reports, the incident unfolded when patients, who had arrived early in the morning around 7 am for treatment, found no doctors available to attend to them.
Minister Subramanian refuted the actor's claims, stating that there were indeed doctors present at the facility during the visit. According to the news reports, Mayor Priya also clarified the situation on her social media page, confirming that the hospital was staffed with medical professionals.
Speaking to TOI, after inaugurating new buildings and medical equipment at Tiruvallur Medical College and Hospital, Subramanian said, "Some people are out to defame govt hospitals, which offer free treatment to the poor."
He stated that some people post old videos and false information on social media pages. An old video of IMH is being circulated even after the hospital was renovated. There is also another video of a nursing assistant cleaning a patient, with the claim that he was treating the patient.
Additionally, Subramanian also outlined plans to enhance the healthcare facilities in the state. He announced that a new catheterization laboratory (cath lab) would be set up at Tiruvallur Medical College and Hospital.
