Horror story: Dog takes away 2-day-old infant from Panipat hospital, mauls him to death
Panipat: In a horrific incident a stray dog entered a private hospital in Haryana's Panipat and has mauled to death a newborn after dragging him out.
The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at the private hospital 'Heart and Mother Care Hospital', when the two-day-old boy was sleeping next to his grandmother on the floor.
According to police, no one noticed the dog entering the hospital.
Station House Officer (SHO), Sector 13-17 police station, Inspector Vijay Kumar said, "The dog entered the hospital, picked up the newborn sleeping on the floor with his grandmother with his mouth and took him out."
Moments later, the baby's relatives raised an alarm as he was nowhere to be found. It was found that the dog had taken him out and bit him, the SHO said.
The baby was later declared dead by doctors, Kumar said.
He said CCTV footage of the hospital showed the dog grabbing the newborn and taking him out.
The baby's family hails from Uttar Pradesh. His mother had come to Panipat for delivery, the SHO said.
As per information Shabnam, wife of Aas Mohammad of Furgan village of Kairana in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh admitted his wife to the hospital for delivery on June 25, reports Tribune India.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a staff nurse of a community health centre has been suspended in connection with the death of a newborn child.
The step was taken after Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered a probe into the matter.
The infant was reported to have difficulty in breathing and was referred to a medical college, but the family took him to a private hospital where the child died, adding that Kiran was still undergoing treatment at the health centre and is stable.
